The place & its purpose
Shannaghe is a residency--a solo experience--designed to support writers, photographers, and other creative thinkers at work on projects that elucidate the nature of being human on this planet. In particular, we're interested in work that draws on the powers of introspection, observation, storytelling, exploration, and research; affirms community; questions injustice; reshapes thinking; and/or maybe even delights. This includes temporary housing for folks engaged in community projects focused on our region.

It's a renovated horse barn--a complete little house--on a well-traveled rural road outside Belfast, Maine. Residents apply for opportunity to stay here.

We also help nonprofit organizations host visiting experts, practitioners, teachers, and others whose work promises to help the region thrive.
